> Visit websiteCollaborating with Aamir Khandwala and his interior design office has been a real joy for the Jouffre team over the last decade. Together, we have created beautiful bespoke furniture, sophisticated window treatments, and wrapped entire spaces in rich wall upholstery for countless residential projects. Khandwala’s sensibility is greatly inspired by intersections of global materials and cultures while spanning generations of design aesthetics.
In this landmark project, recently featured in Architectural Digest, Aamir Khandwala Interior Design (AKID) entrusted us with the furnishing of a historic farmhouse previously transformed by Michael Graves in the 1990s. The palimpsest of the site evolves from its rustic vernacular, via a postmodern restoration, and a contemporary renewal with Khandwala’s own flair. Their approach was to honor the rustic essence of the house while refreshing the interiors in a way that feels authentic and timeless. The patina on the walls—formed over decades—imbues the spaces with history and depth, so the existing paint colors were embraced, repairing damaged areas with care rather than repainting entirely, to preserve the aged charm.
Stepping into the long barn space, the spirit of the home radiates warmth and openness. Special attention was given to the various zones for lounging, TV watching, and gaming— each connected through material continuity and visual coherence. A curved sofa in stained cherry veneer, wrapped in John Roselli and Pierre Frey fabric, anchors the TV area alongside Danish armchairs restored with textiles by Chapas and Moore & Giles. Custom-designed movable stools in Lance woven leather add functional ease.
By the fireplace, a dedicated conversation area features a Donald Judd-inspired daybed in solid cherry with visible dowel joinery, serving as the focal point. Upholstered in matching fabrics, it connects visually to two vintage Italian armchairs from the 1950s, bridging color and form.
In the dining room, eight Samuel Marx chairs were restored and reupholstered in deep green Edelman leather. Wool sheers with chenille stripe details woven into the warp by David S. Gibson softens the space and continues into the living room. In the master bedroom, drapes with elegant wool sheers and an aquamarine degradé offer contrast against the home's natural wooden details.
Nearby, the office provides a moment of refreshed historic refinement in soft green tones. Grounding the space is a pair of English 1880’s Barrel Back Wing Chairs with fully restored carved mahogany legs and textiles from Zoffany Morris and Pierre Frey. These works seamlessly paired with wool sheers, finished with soft green bands and double pinch pleats. This thoughtful blend of materials and finishes grounds the home in its heritage while bringing a fresh, contemporary feel.
From restored heirlooms to custom-designed elements, each detail reflects the precision and artistry that define the work of both Aamir Khandwala and Jouffre. This collaboration has yielded a home where artistry and cohesion come together to tell a story of thoughtful and timeless design.
