The Artisans d'Excellence decorative arts trade show, organized by Miguel Duterrier and Isabelle de Lasteyrie, offered our Lyon ateliers — in collaboration with the Ombre agency — the opportunity to present an immersive scenography celebrating French craftsmanship and textiles.
Founded by Victor Fleury Ponsin and Jean-Michel Bourillot, Ombre collaborates with manufacturers and artisan workshops to develop exceptional materials. Guided by a desire to create with sensitivity, in harmony with the scale of spaces and objects, Ombre reimagines craftsmanship through experimentation, immersing itself in traditional savoir-faire with a technical, historical, and deeply poetic approach.
For the second edition of the event, six immersive cabins were created: a dressing room, wardrobe, photo booth, cabin, elevator, and bedroom. Curtains, drapes, cushions, bedspreads, upholstery, and pleated fabric ceiling showcased the mastery of our upholsterers while highlighting a wide array of fabric manufacturers: CMO Paris, Delcourt Textiles, Maison AD, Manufacture Royale Bonvallet, Nathalie P, and Paris L’Après-Midi.
The bedroom: Delcourt Textiles
Designed as a four-poster bed, this space — adorned with fabrics from Delcourt Textiles — forms a cozy cocoon, perfect for reading old detective novels. It combines contemporary refinement with a reinterpretation of classic details, such as sun-pleated ceilings and Austrian blinds crafted by Henri. These blinds reveal two works that embody the philosophy of this textile house: elegance infused with discreet humor.
The photo booth: Nathalie P.
Playful and ironic, this installation reimagines the character of a photo booth, echoing the design codes of vintage models through folded fabrics. The video created by HENRI evokes the shadow of the Ombre agency, while the central figure represents a muzzuni — a Sicilian ritual sculpture traditionally adorned with fabrics and jewelry. Through this scene, Ombre highlights the fabrics of Nathalie P. alongside the trimmings of Declercq Passementiers.
DRESSING ROOM: Manufacture Royale Bonvallet
In homage to the history of Manufacture Royale Bonvallet, Ombre designed a railway dressing room inspired by the art of dyeing, capable of evoking hues that are centuries-old yet strikingly contemporary. A gradient of pinks resonates with the precious copper curtain rods by Gauthier & Cie. Every detail was conceived for the traveler: from the hat rack to the velvet-covered ladder for hanging coats.
ELEVATOR: Paris l’Après-Midi
This cabin evokes the elevator of a bourgeois apartment where time seems to have stood still. Subtle clues blur the line between reality and dream — such as the plaque engraved with artists’ names, designed by Ombre, crafted by Meljac, and installed by HENRI. Clad in Paris L’Après-Midi fabrics, the space combines bourgeois codes with noble materials (cashmere, alpaca), while reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens. A hand-painted gradient and the subtle vanishing of the woodwork, perceptible only in the silk velvet frame, add a dreamlike touch.
CABANE: Maison AD
Maison AD fabrics conjure a childhood fantasy: building a treehouse in one’s bedroom from the furniture of the parental living room. Sofas are dismantled, curtain rods repurposed, creating a joyful mess. These fabrics, in dialogue with fine trimmings, embody a rigorous aesthetic that still leaves space for playfulness and lightness.
CARETAKER'S LODGE: CMO Paris
A direct reference to a caretaker’s lodge, this intimate setting — with its door, ruffles, and collected objects — evokes nostalgia for a bygone era and a discreet sense of spirituality. Adorned with fabrics and wall coverings by CMO Paris, the space designed by Ombre explores the brand’s DNA: an elegance expressed not only through noble natural materials, but also through thick fabrics with taut pleats and cashmere voile curtains.
