Discover our American Design Studio

To achieve excellence and respond to the technical and aesthetic expectations of our clients, our workrooms have created a Design Studio, truly an innovation in the upholstery profession. The role of this Design Studio, made up of several designers in Lyon, New York and Rabat, is to precisely analyze each project to propose the best technical solutions which combine visual design and optimal comfort. Our collaborators draw, both by hand and in 3D using CAD, the most audacious creations while respecting the proportions, the quality of the finishes, and the comfort of the furniture. Today, we'd like to introduce you to Taylor, Lead Designer for Jouffre USA.

“If you would’ve asked me 6+ years ago where I see myself now, I would’ve said that I hoped to be an in-house furniture designer at an interior design firm creating custom fixtures and furnishings for residences across the globe. Funny enough, that’s exactly what we get to do at Jouffre.”

"My name is Taylor and I am the Lead Designer for Jouffre USA. I’ve been a part of this amazingly talented team for a year and a half now. I spent my childhood on construction sites with my dad and was exposed to beautiful custom spaces from a very early age. Meanwhile my grandfather was an architect and my grandmother a historian so there was no shortage of trips to architectural sites around the country growing up. These experiences inspired me to attend university for architecture where I quickly realized that I had a much deeper love for furniture. This rigorous training resulted in a diverse education that allowed us to decide if we wanted to be more design or build focused in our thesis and then onward.

Through various internships and moving to New York for my dream job at a luxury children’s design studio, it was very clear that the design process, and the collaborations that therein exist, was exactly where I needed to be. I’ve always known that building was not my craft and I would much rather work with others who are infinitely more passionate and skilled in this area. If you would’ve asked me 6+ years ago where I see myself now, I would’ve said that I hoped to be an in-house furniture designer at an interior design firm creating custom fixtures and furnishings for residences across the globe. Funny enough, that’s exactly what we get to do at Jouffre. The one major difference is that we get to collaborate with an ever-growing roster of designers who come to us for our savoir-faire. Jouffre’s profile and niche within the industry resonated with me deeply while I researched the Designer position we were recruiting for back in 2019.

My job at Jouffre has changed so much since I began. As the Lead Designer, I am constantly challenged to support my team, improve our processes, strengthen relationships with our manufacturing partners, forge new partnerships with vendors, work side-by-side with project managers, liaise and collaborate with designers and clients, design and develop custom furniture pieces, manage external production, and maintain quality control across all steps. As a vocal proponent of progressive initiatives, I also work with other managers and ambassadors to define company missions, execute special projects, and help develop future endeavors for inclusivity and diversity.

We find ourselves in a very pivotal moment at Jouffre and I have nothing but unbridled hope for the years to come. I can’t imagine being anywhere else as we continue to plant our feet in Long Island City with the new workroom and endeavor into more and more interesting projects. We have an exciting next chapter together and I think things will only be getting more interesting.

With that being said, global mobility has always been something that has piqued my interest so if the time ever came to spend an extended period of time with the team in Lyon or even expanding Jouffre USA to the West Coast, I would be the first in line with my travel documents. Until then, I look forward to creating a beautiful new space together and working with our not-so-recent-anymore design team initiates Steve and Eric." - Taylor Scott Ross
